About The Starbound Foundation

The Starbound Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to astronomy education for the general public. The organization was founded by John Michael Della Costa III who started giving Starlab portable planetarium shows in 2018 while he was a student at the University of Florida. He fell in love with the response he saw from children and people of all ages who entered the planetarium. After graduating from UF with a B.S. in Astrophysics he began to realize that many organizations and museums had upgraded their equipment and had older Classic Starlabs that were no longer being used. In January of 2020, he began seeking donations of unused Starlabs that would be redistributed to other presenters around the country. The Starbound Foundation is the result of this project! His goal is to bring the Starlab experience to as many people as possible. John hopes The Starbound Foundation will help to increase astronomical knowledge and curiosity about our place in the Universe, especially to those in underrepresented and underprivileged groups.
